I have always been fascinated by wood - how it grows, its life cycle, and sustainable ways to make sure we’ll always have plenty of it.
I remember being young and watching some of the PBS shows - This Old House, The Woodwright’s Shop, and of course… The New Yankee Workshop. Norm was always my favorite. I loved watching him create something from nothing.
Seeing people build things from wood - it has always just … made sense to me. The cutting, the joinery, the assembly. It was like a dance that I could do myself. So I did.
I started woodworking when I graduated college. I was a teacher back then, and woodworking was just a hobby. As I got older, I made a point to increase my skills. Over the course of two decades, I have traded up my tools for better ones. All that time, I was building furniture - for our home, for our friends, family - people were always needing something.
In 2023, we became empty-nesters. We found ourselves with more of life’s most valuable resource - TIME. What better way to fill that time than to start a new business:

“Astra” is Latin for stars - I have always been enamored with space, stars, and sci-fi. The name seemed perfect.
So now we run a business - and we couldn’t be more excited. With over 25 years of custom building experience, we can’t wait to make something just for your home.
